1. Excellent math book for students transitioning in Algebra

   Saxon is great with the way designed their books. The 7/6 Math book can be used for your above average 6th grader for more of challenge, especially if they have been using Saxon since 4th grade and started with the 5/4 Math, or it is an excellent book for 7th grader who may need more general reinforcement, while at the same time starting to really dive into beginning algebra, graphing, plotting, and exponents.
   Saxon is so easy to read. It was originally designed for kids who lived in the Outback in Australia. It reads like plain English, has practice problems and reinforcement problems, and if the student is having a rough time grasphing a certain concept, Saxon even put extra practice problem in the back of the book. As an adult, you will fall in love in math again...and that's hard for many of us.

   The Saxon 7/6 math book does not disappoint. It follows the same plain English explanations followed by practice problems then reinforcement of previous lessons that starts out in the Saxon 5/4 book. This pattern is well recieved by kids and even parents that may be rusty with math can figure things out.

Dr. Shormann teaches every lesson and investigation in the Saxon textbook, including the essential instruction that is missing from the lesson in the textbook. Designed for schools, Saxon assumes the full lesson was presented in class. Therefore, the lesson in the Saxon text is only a summary for the student to review later. That's why John Saxon recommended an experienced instructor to teach his curriculum.

For example, when lesson 40 builds on a concept taught in lesson 20, the book doesn't mention it. However, in the DIVE lectures, Dr. Shormann reviews lesson 20, teaching how the new concept is simply adding one more step to what they already know. This creates “bite-sized” lessons that are easy to understand and makes learning Saxon faster and easier.

CONTINUAL REVIEW INCREASES LONGTERM RETENTION

After the lecture, students complete homework problems in the Saxon textbook. Each homework set provides continual review of previously learned concepts. Research has shown this method superior for increasing long term retention and recall time but it can be a problem for students who need to re-learn forgotten concepts. With DIVE, the student simply re-watches the corresponding DIVE lecture which is printed in parentheses next to each question. Better than giving them the answer, the student relearns the forgotten concept and immediately applies it to the problem; significantly increasing retention.

EXTRA HELP TO ENSURE UNDERSTANDING

The Saxon Homestudy Kit includes a Solutions Manual which shows how to work each problem step by step. We recommend reviewing the correpsonding DIVE lesson first, then consult the Solutions Manual if further help is needed.    Dive has been an extremely helpful addition to our homeschool math. The instructor is very good at relaying each day's lesson and we really appreciate that his practice problems are different from those in the text book. We also greatly appreciate the Christian foundation and references to God. Great program, we highly recommend it!

3. Perfect for Large Families

   I loved the great foundation Saxon gave my boys (8 and 10) but I found it impossible to teach multiple grade levels. DIVE videos (we stream via ipad and laptop) have allowed my boys to continue to progress independently. I am able to focus on their younger siblings for that time. They now take more ownership in their learning because they are fully independent in their math. I could not be happier! May the Lord continue to bless you in your endeavors.

4. Necessary help

   We purchased this for our son. He uses it everyday to complete his Saxon Algebra 2 lessons. An example is given for each problem, one that he can both see and hear. He loves it!

   The Saxon Dive CD's are worth every penny...but to jump to the next level to meet the demands of the modern kid & offer this program on iTunes University....WOW!!
   Kids are doing math instruction on iPad or phone...no excuses now!
   We are from Canada & your local brick & mortar stores won't tell u that these DIVE Programs are offered on iTunes U...(they want the sale of the CD's), but you CAN & you SHOULD!!
